June 2020 + National Storytelling Conference and Festival May 30 - June 7

Stuck at home wishing you could go to a storytelling festival?  Now is the perfect time to learn more about storytelling and enjoy storytellers from all over the world presenting their best-loved stories.

The National Storytelling Network has taken their originally planned annual conference and adapted it to an online festival of storytelling beyond what could ever have occurred in a single location.  You can enjoy a week-long celebration complete with workshops.  (Yes, there will be breaks to get you away from your computer.)  NSN members will indeed have lower rates, but for the first time ever you can purchase individual tickets for events to match your schedule and interests or bundled packages.  There's even a "Pay what you can" form of registration.  All of that and the international performances and you don't have to pay travel, hotel lodging, and food!

Go to for the schedule and to register.  This may be the only time something like this is available or it may be an incentive to switch to this new way of offering storytelling at reduced cost to you and with maximum ability to tailor it to yourself!

Life and storytelling have certainly changed since the April/May edition of MI Story as face to face storytelling meetings, concerts, programs, and conferences began to cancel. On the bright side many storytellers and storytelling groups have shown creative resilience by presenting virtual concerts, workshops, and conferences. One advantage to these virtual events is that you can view and participate in storytelling experiences all over the world without leaving the safety of your home! Storytellers are adjusting and MI Story is adjusting.

Many storytellers throughout Michigan and the rest of the country rely on storytelling as their sole source of income. Due to the coronavirus, all live storytelling events have been canceled. Please consider making a donation to the Storytellers Relief Fund through the National Storytelling Network:  Visit this sight to make a donation and learn what expenses your donation will cover
