Highlights

Life and storytelling have certainly changed since the April/May edition of MI Story as face to face storytelling meetings, concerts, programs, and conferences began to cancel. On the bright side many storytellers and storytelling groups have shown creative resilience by presenting virtual concerts, workshops, and conferences. One advantage to these virtual events is that you can view and participate in storytelling experiences all over the world without leaving the safety of your home! Storytellers are adjusting and MI Story is adjusting.

Many storytellers throughout Michigan and the rest of the country rely on storytelling as their sole source of income. Due to the coronavirus, all live storytelling events have been canceled. Please consider making a donation to the Storytellers Relief Fund through the National Storytelling Network: https://storynet.org/storyteller-relief-fund/  Visit this sight to make a donation and learn what expenses your donation will cover

Story Arts of MN holds an online workshop, taught by an experienced storyteller, on the second Tuesday of each month.  In July, Loren Niemi will lead a session on ghost stories, “Making Something That Goes Bump in the Night.”  What makes for better ghost stories around the campfire? How do you decide what kind of ghost story is right for what age audience? Why should you let imagination do some of the work? Loren will answer those and other questions about the how and why of telling ghost stories. Suitable for any level of experience, the workshop looks at what kinds of ghost stories we tell and what makes them produce a scream or a laugh.  This FREE event is open to everyone via Zoom teleconferencing.  After registering, you'll receive an email message with the Zoom link.  Register at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/making-something-that-goes-bump-in-the-night-workshop-tickets-109992951880  (This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.)
